Ian White Marine Survey operates within a framework of internationally recognized marine safety standards and professional associations. The organizations below set the standards that guide every survey Ian conducts.

01

marinesurvey.org

SAMS is an international organization of marine surveyors. Membership is voluntary but dependent on meeting standards of training and performance set by the organization in terms of ethics, quality of work and mandatory training.

I am a retired member of SAMS.

02

American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC)

abycinc.org

The ABYC is a non-profit organization created to develop safety standards for the design, construction, equipment and maintenance of boats. Its mission is to improve boating safety and reduce the number of injuries and fatalities. ABYC standards are referenced significantly by Transport Canada in their Construction Standards for Small Vessels (TP1332).

I am an ABYC member.

03

National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)

nfpa.org

Established in 1896, the NFPA's mission is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards by providing consensus codes and standards, research, training and education. NFPA Codes define requirements for the installation and maintenance of equipment and fire fighting equipment in boats, and are referenced by Transport Canada TP1332.

04

Transport Canada

Transport Canada sets regulations and standards concerning safety, operation and construction of vessels in Canada. The Construction Standards for Small Vessels (TP1332) sets out requirements for vessel construction, while the Safe Boating Guide (TP511) sets out the safety equipment required aboard vessels operated in Canada. Both documents reference ABYC and NFPA standards.
